In the Netherlands, the potato got accepted as a food crop two centuries after it arrived to Europe from The Americas. Until then, potato flowers were mainly used as decoration on their dining tables. A legend goes that, once, in a royal garden, these plants caught fire. Attracted by the smell of roasted potatoes, the servants then found out the potato’s true richness.
