In recent years, the Peruvian International Potato Center (CIP), together with NASA and other scientific institutions, have investigated the possibilities of growing food crops on Mars. Some trials have already taken place in a Chilean environment that resembles Mars. Although no Martian potatoes will be harvested any time soon, the CIP research shows how potatoes can grow in climate-change affected terrains and be of help in alleviating hunger on Earth!
